Depression: A Need for a Deeper Therapy
In Canada, each year over one million people are affected by depression. According to Statistics Canada 2002, 1 in 7 adults identified symptoms that met the criteria for a mood disorder at some point during their lifetime; this is about 12.2% for depression and 2.4% for bipolar disorder. Many more individuals are affected by depression but have yet to be diagnosed.
Depression affects the entire system, giving rise to both mental/emotional as well as physical symptoms. Symptoms can range from sadness, anxiety, irritability, lack of motivation, sleeplessness/excessive sleeping, and poor concentration to fatigue, headache, and unexplained aches and pains throughout the body.
Depression can have many underlying reasons, for some it may be hereditary. But even those predisposed to depression, will not necessary be affected by depression. Most people with depression can trace it back to some sort of stress that acted as a trigger and initiated the process. This could be relationship issues, problems at school, abuse, death of a loved one, and a myriad of other stressful events. The underlying causes of depression are more likely multifactorial and are different for different people, hence a successful treatment has to address these differences and that is one of the reasons why antidepressants do not work for everyone and not serve as long-term solutions.
Homeopathy on the other hand, addresses depression at its root cause and it is at that level of the underlying cause that homeopathy treats an individual. In homeopathy, it is each person’s unique way of experiencing depression and life in general that allows for a thorough assessement of each case and a consequent successful treatment of the individual. In homeopathy, the details of the case or in other words the totality of symptoms as well as the uniqueness of each case are what help match each case to the homeopathic remedy of choice for that individual, one that encompasses and addresses all of those symptoms.
If you suffer from emotional distress and are looking for a permanent solution and not just a band-aid effect, homeopathy may just be the answer you have been looking for.
